Treading Lightly on the Land
The Delicate Positioning Challenge of Sustainable Tourism and Real Estate Development
[Jack's Point Queenstown Logo]

Client: John Darby and Partners
Queenstown, New Zealand
Project:   Global Marketing Strategy Development, Jacks Point

Jacks Point is Queenstown’s first new resort community. Set within a 3,000 acre nature preserve
on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Jacks Point comprises residential neighbourhoods, a waterfront
village, harbour, an 18-hole championship golf course and extensive trail system. At Jacks, the
philosophy is to tread lightly, carefully integrating a new community and activities into the land,
with no disturbance to its intrinsic values. A covenant means the rugged, dramatic and open
nature of the grassland and mountain landscape that make up Jacks Point will remain forever
protected from development.

Presence was invited to assist in the strategizing and problem solve their marketing challenge —
that is, marketing the property aggressively and profitably, while honoring the development
team’s core belief in sustainability and leaving as small a carbon footprint as possible.
